Hi Everyone, Welcome back to the BethanyThinggoes blog, first blog post for 2017.  It's been a while since  blogged, but now I’m now back to blogging. For this blog post I’m going to share with you how I got to where I am today!   First off, I’m going to go back but not that far back. I’m going to take you back to 2002 when I started High School, I would be lying if said High School was easy, but it wasn’t it was a struggle for me. The reason why school was always a struggle for me was because I had to overcome challenges with my learning disability and take more time to understand the work. Now of days I’m not ashamed to share with you that while in school I was always in the small group settings and always had an IEP. The small group environment was better for me to learn the work. During my time in High School there were moments when I wanted to quit; the reason why I didn’t quit was because I had a wonderful support system from my parents and family.   A...

Welcome back to everyone that read this blog, haven't written in a while but I'm back now. Last night I started my first class of the Coventry Police Citizen's Class. For the first class we learned about Narcan and then we learned CPR and how to work and AED so now I'm CPR  ceritifed . The class started at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30p.m. Next week for class we get a tour of their police station and some other fun stuff. Stay turned for next weeks blog! Thanks for reading Bethany

During the week 9 of the West Warwick Citizen's Police class we learned about accident reconstruction with Officer  Briand Ketcham  that part was for a half hour. The rest of the class officer Robert Hazard went over DUI's and Officer Clark demonstrated what happens when you have too much to drink. During the class they showed us the arrest package on the paper work that officer's have to fill out when the arrest a person for DUI. The Providence Police brought down their BAT Mobile that the Officer's and other communities use when they are doing RIPTIDE (DUI Patrols) This way they don't have to go back to the station. In the BAT Mobile there are 2 jails cells. We got a tour of this bus during our class. Breathalyzer At scene this is what they read Rights for use at Station where officers have to read. Last night during the West Warwick Citizens Police Class,we learned about the Special Investigations Unit. This unit is made up by 2 guys and they main issue is dealing with drugs. They work with neighboring towns/cities such as East Greenwich, Warwick, Cranston, and Coventry. They help them out with drug investigations. During the class we learned about what the DEA does and advantages of them, different types of drugs and how they affect people that take them. They also shared with us how the special investigation  unit benefits the town of West Warwick. This team does secret work that people don't know about, this was their names aren't out there. They do a great job tracking down and keeping the streets of WW clean. Thanks for reading

On April 9th and 10th the Purple Cat Winery located in Chepachet, RI will host their first annual Spring Festival and Cup Cake Challenge. This event will include many aspects such as live music, food trucks, face -painting, wine tasting, indoor and outdoor vendors, kids bouncy house and local artisans. The event will run from 10am-6pm on both April 9th and 10th. This first annual Spring Festival will be a community event for all ages and this festival is FREE to the public, however to take part in the Cupcake Challenge and earn a chance to vote on your favorite cupcakes, tickets will be limited and have to be purchased in advance for $15. The portions of the proceeds from the Cupcake Challenge will be donated towards the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. On Wednesday during the West Warwick Citizen's Police class we learned about 2 tools that the police officers use. The 2 tools we learned about were OC spray (Pepper spray) and the second was the taser.  Police officers use the pepper spray when subjects are being combative with them or they will use it for large crowds. After it is sprayed the feeling is like eating a hot pepper your eyes start to water and they feel like they are on fire! They also taught us the proper way to spray the paper spray and they showed us a video about pepper spray. The taser is used by someone getting zapped. The reason why they use the taser is because it helps to control people when they are not following directions.

A few weeks back I came across a post that The Warwick Police had on their FaceBook page about the wonderful K9 program they have that been in place since 2012. Just wanted to thank the team for their hard work! Here is some material the post  mentioned  some of  K-9 Viking and K-9 Fox success so far they have 497 narcotic searches, 53 building searches, 97 human tracks, and 72 demonstrations.   Since the K-9’s have been in place they have had 10 apprehensions and only 3 required a “bite”.   According to the Warwick Police that is a 70% non- injury rate. Awesome Job  K-9 Viking and K-9 Fox have been responsible for seizing more than 150 pounds of marijuana, 34 pounds of heroin, 36 pounds of cocaine, meth, ecstasy, molly and over thousands of illegal prescription pills off the streets.   In drug money they recovered $900k dollars.
