Week 9 of Class

During the week 9 of the West Warwick Citizen's Police class we learned about accident reconstruction with Officer Briand Ketcham that part was for a half hour. The rest of the class officer Robert Hazard went over DUI's and Officer Clark demonstrated what happens when you have too much to drink. During the class they showed us the arrest package on the paper work that officer's have to fill out when the arrest a person for DUI.

The Providence Police brought down their BAT Mobile that the Officer's and other communities use when they are doing RIPTIDE (DUI Patrols) This way they don't have to go back to the station. In the BAT Mobile there are 2 jails cells. We got a tour of this bus during our class.

After we toured the BAT Mobile they showed us how they would give some -one a field sobriety test. This test includes Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) -eye test, Walk &Turn test and the One Leg Stand (OLS) . Usually  they will look to see if you miss any of the instructions they give you during the test. For a new officer it usually takes them about 8 hrs to get the paperwork done and the experienced officer it takes them a couple of hours.
