West Warwick Citizen's Police Class Week 3

Hi All,

Well week 3 of the 10 week classes is in the books. During the course on Wednesday night we learned about Criminal Law and the elements of criminal law. In Criminal law there are 2 sources of it which are Statutes, and Common Law.

In Rhode Island the Common Law definition is when the Rhode Island Statue doesn't define a crime. For example: the elements of a burglary are found in case law.

A Statue can replace or codify the common law.

Some law areas we went over were crimes against people, property crimes, crimes against society, and Inchoate Crimes.  Inchoate crimes are conspiracy, solicitation, and attempt.

At the end of the class we were showing a video of what cases district court handle. They mostly handle civil disputes, and  small business court.

Thanks for reading!
