Last Cranston Police Citizen's Class

Image
Last night was our last citizen's police academy class :(. During our last night they gave us a tour of the police station! During the tour they showed us the cell block, special detective unit, breathalyzer room, and also where the dispatchers work. They even explained to all of us a little bit about what the dispatchers do and how they can tell which units are where.  After the tour we went back to the room for the  graduation, at this time they showed us the video from the night  when we did the role playing scenario's. It was quite funny to watch! At the end they provided us with our certificates and T-Shirt's. This was a great 8 weeks for sure and I had many new learning experiences!

On Saturday May 17th 2014 we had an introduction to firearm safety and demonstrations. At the beginning of the class they showed us how to properly load a gun and also pass the gun off to another person. They also showed us a video on keeping ours selfs safe while shooting that day. The instructors also showed us how to stand while we are shooting and they also told us how to hold the gun. During this time we had to wear the bullet proof vest and hear protection. This was also a great experience. We got to see how to shoot a gun and the training that the officers go through.

Week 6 Role Playing Scenario's

On May 13th during the week 6 of our class we had an exciting class. The reason why it was exciting was because it was really hands -on. They provided us with real life scenario's that we had to do. We had to be the police officers and the police officers played the role's as the citizen's in the cars etc. During this time they gave us 6 different cases to complete. The first scene was a Disturbance. The second scene was Felony Car Stops. The third scene were Interview and Interrogations. The fourth case was Traffic Stops. The fifth scene was Crisis Negotiations. Last but not least was the sixth scene and this was a 911 Call. Also while we were completing these 6 different scene's the instructors were giving us and evaluation. This is where they made comments for us to let us know how we did. The reason why they did the role playing for us was so we could see what it's like for them when they go to different calls. Also they wanted us to handle different situations.

On the May 7th of the Cranston Citizen's police class, we learned about their BCI unit they have. BCI stands for Bureau Criminal Information. During this class they showed us their BCI crime unit truck they have. The crime unit truck is used for murders, and shooting when they occur. They use this because they have tools in this truck that they can secure evidence in. In this truck they have a nice (flat screen T.V.). Another section they showed us at this class was how they can measure we bullets went through. For the third part of the class they took us into the BCI lab and showed us how they get fingerprints off soda cans etc. We also got to try this for our selfs. For this we had to touch the soda can and then use the black dust to wipe the soda can with the brush until we could see the finger prints starting to come out.
